Farley Printing Company 26 - Playmakers 7
Farley Printing moves into the Rec Championship game for the 2nd time in 2 seasons with a convincing win over the Playmakers on Saturday. Playing with superstar QB Darren The Dutchman, FPC won the game with it's #2 ranked defense and solid if unspectacular offensive play.
FPC's defense gave up only 120 points in the regular season, second only to Fusion, in the league's top two divisions. The Playmakers were overmatched from the start. Big Angry was penciled in as a starter minutes before the game when Johnny Meatballs was declared inactive due to conduct detrimental to the team.
Geo drew first blood with the first interception of the game giving him the opportunity to be the first person to lead the team in INTs other than Mitts in over 5 seasons. Unfortunately, the FPC offense again stalled in the red zone (at the two yard line no less) and turned it over on downs.
However, a rejuvenated Big Angry, playing both ways took his second interception to the house on the following drive to give the team a 6-0 lead. Mitts, in his best Martin Grammatica impersonation missed the extra point, bringing a cascade of boos from the stands. Mitts is now 19/22 for the year on PATs and 5/6 on FGs. There was a rumor that calls were made to Chopper Componovo over the weekend to bring him back to kick for the finals.
Regardless the FPC defense was simply too strong(strong to medium strong) for the Playmakers and they were forced to punt on the next possession. With Randelli out on medical leave JoKer took over at center. With The Dutchman out of the country, veteran QB CComps was put back un the lineup. In a Vince Evans-like performance he pulled out the Wing T, the Option and I Formation. After working the kinks out, FPC started moving the ball efficiently. And when CComps found JoKer on a slant for the 2nd TD, somewhere Delli got angry.
The Playmakers would score on their next possession to bring it to 13-7 but that was as close as they would get. On the next drive, CComps would find Feaster outside who pitched to Leland MacElroy who blew down the sidelines for what looked like a 70 yard TD run. Unfortunately the wheels loosened up at the 40 and started wobbling at the 30. By the 20 they were off and MacElroy was flagged. On 3rd and goal, CComps rolled right and found JoKer in the endzone for his 2nd TD of the game.
A CComps interception on the Playmakes drive would give him the opportunity to go deep to The Big Angry in the endzone for a game sealing TD and ensuring that The Big Angry would go home happy - which was might have been the sweetest thing of all.
