Farley Printing Company 21 - Fusion 34
They call themselves Fusion and they carry a 40 plus game win streak. In fact, the last time any of the guys on Fusion lost a game was back on chilly September morning in 2002, when they lost to a riled up Farley Printing Squad 34-30 in a game that wasn't nearly as close as the score implied. And for those of you who might remember it...keep quiet, this is my story and I'll tell it anyway I want. Anyway, many of the topless women on the sidelines that day still talk of the game. So it was not suprise to see FPC come out fired on to play this rebuilt Fusion team.
Playing without all-league center Randelli, The Big Angry moved to center and Comps went to HB. The game began as most FPC games do. FPC gave up a TD to open the game and held defensively on the extra point. They then turned the ball over on downs and gave up another TD to go down 12-0 for the second time in their last 3 games.
But FPC was not worried. They know that The Dutchman is a guy who plays better under pressure. Either that or it takes him some time to get warmed up and get the 7/11 nachos out of his system. So the ladies from Krispy Kreme that came to watch The Dutchman were expecting something special.
But it was Chris Comps who gave it to them when he threw deep to a wide open Marcus P Jenning III. The only player on the field more suprised than the safety who was badly beaten was Jennings himself - when JoKer ran through and snagged the TD for himself. But a score is a score and FPC ended the half down 12-7.
When L Train went down with a broken rib late in the first half JoKer was forced to take over at rusher. He more than held his own and would pick up two sacks in the second half. But Fusion was unfazed and FPC was unable to hold them yet again. They did come up witha stop on the extra point but remained down 20-7.
Then The Dutchman gave all the girls in the "Bigguns for Dutchy" fan club something to cheer about on the next drive. After a few clutch 3rd down and 4th down conversions he hit JoKer on a deep seem for a 35 yard gain. A few plays later he made the throw of the season. Feaster ran a deep out and Dutch put the ball low and outside where only a diving Feaster could get it. Feaster came up with the ball cutting the lead to 20-14 and setting off arguments throughout the Fusion team.
But again, FPC was unable to muster a defensive stop and Fusion put the ball in the endzone for some breathing room: Fusion 28 - FPC 14. While Fusion was busy congratulating themselves FPC marched down the field with The Dutchman and Chris Comps throwing deep to Feaster and JoKer. When Feaster rolled left on an option and found Mitts in the corner of the endzone to cut the lead to 28-21, Fusion was clearly rattled.
An excellent kickoff left Fusion with 1st and 19 on the 1st of 7 plays. However, FPC's defense failed again as Fusion first picked up a first down with an excellent over the shoulder catch made 20 yards downfield. Two plays later with FPC gambling defensively, Fusion again scored to end the game at 34-21.
