| Farley Printing Company 7 - Gamblers 10
An incredible defensive performance was overshadowed by an incredibly inept offensive performance as Farley Printing dropped its third game of the season and placed its playoff hopes in serious jeopardy.
Attempting to ride the hot streak, Manager Joe Farley kept the Dutchman at QB and moved the returning Chris Comps to HB. It was a move that would immediately pay dividends as Comps ran 75 yards for a TD on the second play of the game. However, it was just the first of a two questionable decisions Farley made through out the game. One move that did pay off was having The Burns and Matt Feaster switch positions. Taking advantage of Feaster's speed at middle linebacker, the defense was able to play much more aggressively, resulting in an interception by Mitts for the second straight game, an additional sack by Joe Kerr, numerous turnovers on downs, and a WR almost being decapitated by an out of control Creme C Hewes. All said, the defense gave up only one field goal, and that was after an offensive turnover inside their own 50 yard line. It was a splendid performance that quieted the hostile crowd at Biden field.
Unfortunately, the FPC offense had three turnovers, one of which was returned 98 yards for a TD. While none of those plays can be directly attributed the The Burns' move to offense, it didn't stop the whispers in the locker room after the game. When asked how he felt about playing offense, The Burns replied "You heard me." When the question was repeated, "That's right." was the response The Burns offered as he climbed into his BMW - groupies in tow - and peeled out of the parking lot.
In addition, FPC squandered an opportunity on the last play of the first half, when a Dutchman pass failed to find Chris Bosch in the endzone. That play followed a controversial decision by Farley to pass up an easy field goal and let the offense go for the TD. "Hey, it was The Dutchman with the ball on the niner! When The Dutchman already got the niner...well, you just can't pass up those opportunities." said Farley after the game.
No I guess you can't. FPC stands at 1-3 and the calls for Chopper's return only grow louder...
