Farley Printing Company 7 - Wolfpack 12
They are good golfers. They're good on the basketball court. They are even good friends. That's right, we're talking about The Dutchman and The Big Angry. The ladies love 'em. Families trust them. Kids adore them. There isn't much you can say that isn't flattering about them. Except for one small item. If it's 4th and goal from the 12 and there are only a few seconds on the clock, neither of these guys is who you want under center. In fact I'm not sure you even want them in the backfield. Now that I think about it I don't even want them on the sideline. I want them in the trunk of the team bus being driven away at high speeds. Blindfolded.
At first that might seem harsh. But if I told you that this dynamic duo has combined for 1 touchdown pass and 7 interceptions over the last 4 games...I'm pretty sure you would offer to drive the bus.
Farley Printing notched its second loss of the season and fell to .500 after losing to The Wolfpack 12-7. While the defense was outstanding, it's is very difficult to win when you throw 4 interceptions.
FPC began the game with it's standard 5 minute drive unfortunately culminating in the first turnover of the day when The Dutchman lofted a ball deep into the back of the endzone...to the opposing safety. It's hard to blame the Dutchman since his intended receiver, The Big Angry got caught up in Lil Mitts' little mitts as the two collided.
The Wolfpack drove down the field and scored to take a 6-0 lead after missing the extra point.
FPC responded well after moving the ball down to the opposing 40. The drive stalled however, when Chris Comps, on an option, threw a rifle to Feaster. OK, it was actually more in the direction of Feaster - the upper direction...about 3 feet over his head to be exact. Interception #2. End of half.
In the second half The FPC defense continued the stellar play it has shown all season. L-Train picked up another sack and the Wolfpack was held on downs. FPC started driving again but again the drive stalled when the Big Angry took a hand off, rolled left and threw against the grain as he lilkes to do. And as it almost always does, the ball sailed to the right of the intended receiver and found the arms of an opposing player. Interception #3.
Fortunately for Big Angry, The Dutchman was there to bail him out. On the ensuing Wolfpack drive, The Dutchman knocked the ball loose on a pitch and while he was unable to complete the play, he was able to divert the ball in such a way that his little midget buddy Mitts was able to get his hands on it.
FPC begain its fourth fourth drive of the game and The Dutchman guided his team down to the Wolfpack 20. Again, it was an option to The Big Angry and again he rolled left and threw. This time it was to the back of the endzone and the crowd was on its feet. Which was good because if they weren't on their feet they wouldn't have seen Chris Comps pick up and body slam the Wolfpack safety who had intercepted Angry's pass.
The Wolfpack would finally score a second TD on a crossfield pass that Mitts wasn't able to bat down. If he only had bigger Mitts he would have picked it off. That or if he hadn't added 20 pounds to his already swelling frame. Either way, FPC was now down 12-0.
In a case of too little too late. FPC did add a late TD on a pass from Chris Comps to Joe Kerr. Unfortunately, all the Wolfpack needed was one first down to end the game, which was exactly what they got.
FPC falls to 2-2 with three games left. After the game The Dutchman was quoted as saying, "One thing I know is I left everything on the field and gave 110% from the opening bell to the final gun." He then added, "Dude, I'm gonna tell you what. It's starting to open up for me out there. I'm starting to see the routes and know where guys are. I'm about to turn it on."
Considering that FPC is already past the halfway point of the season, let's just hope the Dutchman decides to turn it sometime soon.
